Congratulations to Prof. Osnat Levtzion-Korach on her appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor

We would like to congratulate Professor Osnat Levtzion-Korach, Director of the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh), on her appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor for Hospital Directors.

Prof. Levtzion-Korach graduated from the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, earned a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Tel Aviv University, and is board-certified in pediatrics and medical administration. Prof. Levtzion-Korach also serves as Chair of the Forum of Public Hospital Directors in Israel.

After completing her Master’s Degree at Tel Aviv University, she worked alongside Prof. David Bates at the Center for Patient Safety and Excellence at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard University, Boston. At the same time, she served as a senior consultant at Patient Flow Technology, advising U.S. hospitals on improving and optimizing resource use in operating rooms, emergency departments, and catheterization labs.

Her areas of interest include patient safety, quality assurance, resource utilization, risk management, and health economics - fields she continues to pursue today.

Upon returning to Israel, Prof. Levtzion-Korach was appointed Deputy Director of Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, and about four years later, she became the first woman to head Hadassah Mount Scopus Medical Center. After five years in that role, in 2017, she was appointed Director of Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh), becoming the first woman in Israel to lead a government hospital.

Today, she leads the historic expansion of the Shamir Medical Center - from a large hospital into the largest hospital in Israel. Alongside her administrative role, she promotes the development of gender- and sex-sensitive medicine and is working to establish a dedicated research center and clinic in this field. Recently, Prof. Levtzion-Korach was appointed Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Israeli Olympic Committee. She regularly appears on Forbes and Globes lists of influential and inspiring women, and she was also named among the 20 people who transformed Israel’s healthcare system.

 

Prof. Osnat Levtzion-Korach is married to Dr. Amit Korach, a leading cardiac surgeon and Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at Hadassah Medical Center.

She is the mother of four sons and lives in Jerusalem.
 

Prof. Levtzion-Korach’s position of Adjunct Associate Professor is for Hospital Directors and Senior Physicians in key leadership roles in Israel’s healthcare system, as part of the Health Systems Management track at the School of Public Health, Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences Tel Aviv University. This promotion track enables senior healthcare leaders to contribute their extensive practical experience to teaching, mentoring, and training the next generation of health system leaders.
