Prof. Israel Barbash has been appointed Head of the Department of Cardiology at the Gray School of Medicine.

Prof. Israel Barbash has been appointed Head of the Department of Cardiology at the Gray School of Medicine.

Prof. Barbash earned his M.D. from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiology at Sheba Medical Center.

In 2009, he joined the Cardiovascular Intervention Program at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, for a research fellowship in interventional cardiology. During this period, he conducted both basic and clinical research and published several scientific papers on interventional cardiology and MRI-guided cardiovascular interventions.

He later completed an advanced clinical fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic–MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., where he received training in advanced interventional procedures.

In 2014, Prof. Barbash returned to Sheba Medical Center as a Senior Interventional Cardiologist and was later appointed Director of the Catheterization Laboratories. Over more than two decades of clinical and research activity in cardiology, he has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is recognized as a leading expert in interventional cardiology.

In 2023, he was appointed Director of the Interventional Cardiology Program at the Leviev Heart Center at Sheba Medical Center. He currently leads the expansion of the interventional cardiology program into a new facility, integrating all neurointerventional procedures within a unified cardiovascular intervention program.

The Gray School of Medicine congratulates Prof. Barbash on his appointment and wishes him every success in his new role.
