The Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry is at the forefront of biomedical research in Israel. The history and development of our Department resulted in a wide, diverse nature of research areas and subspecialties. While medical research and education have experienced dramatic changes in what is commonly referred to as the ‘post genomic era’, our Mission has not changed. We strive to provide the best available education to undergraduate, graduate and medical students and, concomitantly, we aim to conduct scientific research at the highest standard of excellence.

We offer courses and training in genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry to medical, dental, and paramedical students, as well as graduate students in M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs, and joint M.D.- Ph.D. students. Research in our Department takes places on campus and at affiliated hospitals, where faculty members can mentor students and young researchers in both preclinical and clinical settings. The ultimate goal of our research is to decipher the molecular, genetic and biochemical basis of disease and alleviate human suffering.
