University Update: Guidelines for Campus Activity Amid Ongoing Conflict

Message to the Tel Aviv University Community from President Ariel Porat, Rector Mark Shtaif, and Director General Gadi Frank

June 14, 2025

To faculty, administrative staff, students, and the entire Tel Aviv University community,
We have now been at war with Iran for two days, and this war may continue for some time. We hope that you and your loved ones are coping with these difficult days as well as possible, and that you have not suffered harm of any kind.
Just hours after the attack on Iran began, the Dean of Student Success opened a “hotline” offering preliminary psychological support to members of the university community. Please do not hesitate to use it if you are in need of assistance: 076-8844492. Non-Hebrew speakers, please contact lowycounsel@tauex.tau.ac.il for this purpose.
To the best of our knowledge, some students (and likely also faculty members and staff) have been called up for reserve duty. Our hearts are with them. As always, we will do everything we can to support them, both academically and financially.
In light of the security situation and the Home Front Command’s directive to suspend all educational activity — including at institutions of higher education — and to maintain only essential operations in workplaces, we are issuing the following guidelines for campus activity on Sunday and Monday, June 15–16:

1. All teaching will take place remotely via Zoom. Recordings of classes will be made available to all students. No exams, laboratory sessions, or practical workshops will be held on these two days, and alternative dates will be scheduled. Teaching staff are asked to show flexibility regarding delays in submitting assignments due on these days.

2. Administrative work will take place remotely, except for essential staff required for campus operations. The Security Unit will operate in full. Essential staff at the different Faculties will function as needed under the direction of the Heads of Administration (primarily for opening protected spaces, placing directional signage, supporting online instruction, and maintaining
research continuity). Essential staff in the various divisions will work according to the instructions of the relevant deputy directors and division heads.

3. The Security Unit will soon distribute updated emergency guidelines to the campus community, including information on shelter locations, gate hours during emergencies, and more.

If you are part of the international community on campus and are not receiving updates from the Lowy International School, please join this Whatsapp group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/E6myxtVZ8J9B3hdRvm5uSm

We will continue to monitor developments and the instructions of the Home Front Command and will update you as needed.
We all hope for a swift and successful end to the war with Iran, with no further harm to our soldiers or civilians. We mourn together with the families of those who lost their lives and wish a full recovery to the wounded. Even now, we must not forget, not even for a moment, the hostages who are still languishing in the horrors of the Gaza tunnels. Everything must be done to bring them home quickly.

Yours,
Ariel Porat, President Mark Shtaif, Rector Gadi Frank, Director General
