06 November 2025

The Albert and Alba Cuenca Research Institute for Treatment Approaches to Aging-Related Diseases at Tel Aviv University held its first annual conference last month. The institute was founded on a broad and innovative vision of the field of gerontology, viewing aging as a complex, multidimensional, and multidisciplinary process in which physical, psychological, social, and economic factors influence one another.

The conference, dedicated to the memory of Prof. Yoram Maaravi, was led by Prof. Rachel Dankner, Head of the Cuenca Institute. About 100 researchers, students, and health professionals participated, representing the fields of medicine, public health, social welfare, as well as policy makers engaged in issues of aging and community health.

The event featured renowned international speakers, including Prof. Nathan Herrmann, Prof. Ramit Ravona-Springer, Prof. Tali Cukierman-Yaffe, Dr. Sharon Stein-Merkin, Prof. Teresa Seeman, Dr. Rafi Hadad, Mr. Yossi Heymann, and Prof. Moyses Szklo.

As part of the conference, roundtable discussions were held on topics of education, research, and policy, with the participation of a diverse group of physicians, researchers, and policy-makers. The conference concluded with a ceremonial awards event, during which scholarships were granted to outstanding graduate students conducting applied research in the field of aging.
