The Institute for International Scientific Exchanges in Medical Sciences (IISEMS)

Prof. Dr. med. Tony (Detlef) Uthoff is a well-known Ophthalmologist, the head of the Kiel Eye Hospital in Germany and specialist in Anterior Segment Surgery.
He published over 150 articles in scientific journals, delivered lectures all over the world and educates generations of young ophthalmologist to follow.

 

Prof. Uthoff is an active member in over 20 organizations and professional societies, including the New-York Academy of Sciences and served several terms as Governor at the Board of Governors of the Tel-Aviv University.

 

In 1999, Prof. Uthoff decided to donate to Tel-Aviv University a fund to establish a new Institute which will dedicate itself to international scientific exchanges in Ophthalmology.

 

Soon after its establishment, Prof. Uthoff was appointed by the Tel-Aviv University as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Institute (IISEMS).

 

This project was a result of a long lasting friendship with the late Prof. Michael Blumenthal.


The vision of the two was to raise an institute that will be able to invite world renown specialist in all ophthalmology fields to Israel and enable exchange of knowledge and ideas as well as further expand Ophthalmic Education in Israel, under the academic auspices of the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University.
