Prof. Orit Karnieli-Miller and Dr. Sharon Peles won the Rector’s Prize for Innovation and Creativity in Teaching
The prize was given for the course that teaches how to deliver bad news
Prof. Orit Karnieli-Miller and Dr. Sharon Peles, from the Department of Medical Education at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, won the Rector’s Prize for Innovation and Creativity in Teaching for their course “Delivering Bad News.”
The course focuses on one of the most challenging and meaningful skills in medicine - delivering bad news to patients and their family members, a significant and complex event for patients, families, and medical staff alike.
The course’s main innovation is the integration of a generative AI-based simulator into an experiential and reflective learning process. This allows students to practice difficult conversations repeatedly, receive personalized and structured feedback, and deepen their ability to communicate with sensitivity and empathy.
Beyond its impact on students, this approach opens new possibilities for teaching complex communication skills, both in medicine and in other fields.

Warm congratulations to Orit and Sharon on this impressive achievement and their significant contribution to advancing teaching and learning!
