Research

Research in Biomechanics laboratory explores the mechanical behavior of the orofacial tissues and structures. This includes tooth tissues: enamel, dentin and PDL as well as jaw-bones. Our interest is to study the influence of various dental treatments on the mechanical behavior and performances of dental materials, dental structures and the combination in between in the field of dentistry, specifically the fields of restorative dentistry and orthodontics. This is done by designing custom mechanical testing systems for each research aims in vitro and in vivo. The researchers are done in collaboration with the clinical departments of the Dental School as well as other professions such as orthopedic surgeons.

Collaboration between the Biomechanics laboratory and the Occupational Therapy department at The Stanley Steyer School of Health Professions is aimed to study the manual dexterities capabilities of dental students, to develop specific manual tests for detecting their capabilities and to develop training tools to improve dental students' manual capabilities. Moreover, collaboration with and The School of Psychological Sciences is aimed to explore the brain activity during delicate and long-lasting performances needed in dentistry.
