Prof. Michael J. Ruckenstein, MD, joins TAU as affiliated faculty member to the Department of Otolaryngology at the School of Medicine at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
Prof. Ruckenstein is a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is also Director of the Implantable Hearing Device Program at the University of Pennsylvania, Director of the Penn Specialty Network - ORL-HNS at Penn Medicine, Director of the Division of Otology & Neurotology at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and Fellowship Director – Neurotology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Ruckenstein’s research focuses on clinical studies designed to elucidate the epidemiology, pathophysiology, assessment, and treatment outcomes of Meniere’s disease; assessment of performance of patients with cochlear implants and factors that affect this performance; assessment and outcome measures for patients with skull base tumors, including acoustic neuromas; and genetics of hearing loss in the adult population.
Prof. Ruckenstein is active in academic and institutional committees, both at Penn and outside of his University. He is active in teaching and mentors research for medical students and residents. On a national level, he is a member of the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery, the Association for Research in Otolaryngology and the Society of University Otolaryngologists.
On an international level, Prof. Ruckenstein is a member of the Canadian Society for Otolaryngology-H&N Surgery, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and North American Skull Base Society. He has and continues to serve on the editorial board of several international journals in his field, including Otology Neurotology and Audiology Neurotology.
