Speaker: Prof. Ronny Drapkin
Professor of Pathology in Obstetrics & Gynecology, University of Pennsylvania
Hosted by: Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro,
Head, Gray School of Medical Sciences, Tel Aviv University
About the lecture:
Prof. Ronny Drapkin, Franklin Payne Professor of Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania, directs the Penn Ovarian Cancer Research Center, the Gynecologic Cancer Research Program at the Basser Center for BRCA, and co-directs the Ovarian Cancer Translational Center of Excellence at the Abramson Cancer Center.
His pioneering research focuses on the pathogenesis and molecular evolution of women’s cancers, particularly ovarian and endometrial carcinomas. His laboratory was instrumental in identifying the fallopian tube epithelium as the origin of most high-grade serous ovarian cancers—a discovery that redefined prevention and early detection strategies.
In this lecture, Prof. Drapkin will discuss his lab’s work on tumor–microenvironment interactions and the role of neural innervation in cancer progression. He will also share insights from his group’s efforts to develop a precancer atlas aimed at identifying biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cancer interception.
