Mauerberger Foundation Fund Award for Transformative Technologies & Innovation for Health Needs in Africa

Call for grant proposals 2023

The Mauerberger Foundation Fund (MFF) Award for Transformative Technologies and Innovation for Health Needs in Africa will draw upon Israeli-African inventiveness and innovation in science with a focused impact on tackling major development needs of Africans.

The Award will be made annually to scientists based at the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University working in collaboration with African counterparts on the basis of the potential for their contributions to create products, treatments, processes, applications, or technologies that are suitable for use in areas lacking in infrastructure and economic resources.

Award winners will be able to solve development problems using sound science and an entrepreneurial spirit of being results-focused. We will prioritize researchers who offer high impact and low resources programs.

This grant brings together excellence in research among basic scientists (tenure-track Faculty members from the Faculty of Medicine at TAU) and physicians and PhD researchers (TAU Faculty of Medicine members from affiliated hospitals and HMOs*).

The Research Fund will provide up to 2 research grants in the amount of $25,000 supporting fundamental and translational research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.

The proposal should outline the vision, deliverables, and overall goals of the initiative, and the research priorities of its research themes. MFF’s innovative grant program will support the exploration of novel and innovative ideas, with the potential for breakthrough science.

Eligible to apply: TAU tenure-track faculty members or TAU faculty members from one of the TAU-affiliated hospitals or HMOs (MD or PhD, on clinical or regular track).

Length of grant: 1 year, with ability to request extension to a second year based on performance in the first year.

The budget will be maintained by the Research Authority at TAU. All grants that pass eligibility rules will be reviewed competitively by an ad hoc review committee.
