About the hub

Autism and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders

TAU is an internationally recognized center of excellence in the study of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders, primarily affecting children.

Under the leadership of Dr. Moran Rubinstein and Prof. Ditza Zachor, the Biomed@TAU Research Hub on Autism and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders will bring together scientists in this area. They will coordinate international conferences, as well as facilitate networks for competitive grant funding. TAU is home to Israel’s largest concentration of scientists and clinicians investigating all aspects of brain science, including autism. Some 1,400 TAU researcher-clinicians work in 17 affiliated hospitals, which together serve more than half of the Israeli population. These close ties ensure that research conducted in the lab has every opportunity to be translated into real-world therapies and technologies. Over 25 senior TAU scientists and their teams investigate the molecular, genetic, physiological and behavioral elements of autism.

The strength of TAU is the remarkable multidisciplinary, internationally renowned, and collaborative team of neuroscientists, speech therapists, geneticists, and social workers performing both basic and translational research, in consultation with leading clinicians at TAU-affiliated hospitals. Projects include identifying biomarkers for the early detection of autism, machine learning to dissect the genomics of autism, and understanding the well-being and meaning in life among families affected by autism.
