Pediatric Dentistry
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry is a recognized department for specialization by the Scientific Council of the Israel Dental Association.
The specialty program is aimed at acquiring a better understanding of all subjects related to the oral and dental health of children and adolescents. Students will gain skills in accurately diagnosing phenomena in the oral and dental organs, preventing oral and dental diseases, and in the holistic treatment of the child. Special attention is given to the understanding of children's emotional, mental and intellectual development, as well as to their physical facial growth and development.
During specialization, the post-graduate student learns how to treat young and extremely anxious children who may need sedation. The program extensively covers topics in the use of sedation and general anesthesia. Specific focus is also given to the topic of dental trauma: diagnosis and treatment in facial injuries in primary and permanent teeth, and trauma to the supporting tissues. The specialty program also emphasizes the specific needs of patients with special needs.
Following the regulations, the program includes 3.5 years of study:
- Department of Pediatric Dentistry - 2 years
- Hospital department of general anesthesiology - 3 months
- Hospital pediatric department - 3 months
- Department of Orthodontics - 3 months
- Elective - 3 months
- Basic sciences - 6 months
Please note that TAU's specialty program is part-time, and it requires more than 3 1/2 years to complete.
