Periodontology
The advanced (Postgraduate) program in periodontics provides a 2-year Diploma program in Periodontology with an additional 1.5 years to meet the requirements of the Israel Ministry of Health for a specialty in the field of Periodontics. Candidates in the Post-Doctoral Program in Periodontology learn to provide patients with optimal comprehensive periodontal care and also to integrate the use implants in prosthetic reconstruction in clinical dentistry with a step-by-step approach.
The Postgraduate Program in Periodontology at the School of Dental Medicine is a part-time (60%) 6-year program. In terms of full- time equivalent, 3 years are spent in the Department of Periodontology, in which 6 months are devoted to research and 6 months in rotations - 3 months in a Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and 3 months in a Department of either Oral Pathology or Oral Medicine).
Successful postgraduate students are allowed to practice Periodontics and Oral Implant Therapy at the specialist level, qualifying them to take the Israeli National Board Examination for a specialty by the Israel Ministry of Health.
The theoretical course consists of classic and current literature review seminars, case presentation seminars, and treatment of patients with periodontal disease, especially treatment of complex cases.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:
- Intensive knowledge of the scientific basis to dentistry and periodontology
- A broad knowledge of all aspects of clinical dentistry
- Intensive knowledge of clinical periodontics
- A broad knowledge of the interactions between oral and systemic diseases and the management of a medically-compromised patient
- Clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of all known diseases and disorders of the periodontium.
- Clinical expertise in diagnosis, case selection, treatment planning, and surgical aspects of oral implantology
- Skills in critical evaluation of scientific literature
