Master's Degree Requirements - Graduate Studies
Course Exemptions and Resumption of Studies
General
- Eligibility for a degree is contingent upon completing at least two-thirds of the study program.
- Exemptions apply to an entire course, not parts of it.
Exemption Due to Previous Academic Studies
- A student who completed a course as part of a prior academic degree (bachelor’s or master’s) at a recognized institution may request an exemption for the course if it is required in their current program. Requests are subject to review by the Student Committee.
- Requests must be submitted to the Graduate School Office at least two weeks before the academic year begins using the designated form available on the website. The form must include a transcript from the previous institution and a complete syllabus for the course.
- Exemptions are considered based on the following criteria, subject to the “Expiration of Studies” policy:
- The course is required for the current degree program.
- The student achieved a final grade of at least 75 in the course.
- No more than five years have passed since the course was completed.
- The Student Committee has full discretion to approve, deny, or require the student to take an exemption exam or submit additional coursework.
- Exemptions for courses taken at another institution will be granted without a grade and will not be included in the GPA calculation.
- Exemptions for identical courses taken at Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Medicine, if approved, will include the grade and will be factored into the GPA, provided they were not previously included in another degree program.
Resumption of Studies
- A student who has discontinued their studies and wishes to resume them must be reviewed by the Student Committee, provided the break does not exceed five years. A break exceeding five years results in a full expiration of all courses taken prior to the interruption.
- The Student Committee may, at its discretion, recognize courses completed in the past if no more than five years have passed since the break in studies.
- A student resuming studies must meet all academic requirements in effect at the time of resumption and comply with any additional requirements set by the Student Committee.
