Master's Degree Requirements - Graduate Studies

Transition Requirements to second stage in the Master’s Program

Introduction
The provisions of this chapter do not exempt students from other obligations or transition requirements outlined in university and faculty regulations or as communicated to students directly.

Transition Requirements to the second stage

A student must meet the following conditions to proceed to the second year of the Master’s Program:

    1. First-year students must complete all faculty-mandated courses during their first year of study.
    2. Students must achieve a minimum weighted average grade of 80.0.
    3. Students with an average between 70.0 and 80.0 will be referred to the Student Committee, as detailed below.
    4. Students must submit their thesis proposal before commencing the second year of study.
    5. Students must receive a passing grade (above 60) in final exams and the overall grade for courses they are enrolled in.
    6. The submitted thesis proposal must receive approval.
    7. Students must adhere to the supervisor's instructions.
    8. If necessary, students must obtain prior approval from the Student Committee to extend the submission deadlines for their thesis or research proposal.

Students who fail to meet these requirements will have their cases reviewed by the Student Committee, which may decide to:

  1. Terminate their studies.
  2. Allow continued studies under specific conditions. Failure to meet these conditions will result in dismissal.
  3. Take other actions at the committee's discretion.

Students have the right to appear before the committee during discussions about their cases.

Dismissal of Studies by the Faculty

The faculty may terminate a student’s studies in the following cases:

    1. The student’s first-year weighted average is below 70.0.
    2. The student fails to complete their studies, including final exams and thesis submission, within the required timeframe.
    3. The student fails a mandatory or prerequisite course after retaking it.
    4. The student fails to meet conditions set for them, including those related to repeating a study year.
    5. The student fails to comply with terms decided by the Student Committee.

Dismissed students may appeal to the Faculty Appeals Committee within two weeks of receiving the dismissal notice. Students can request to appear before the committee. If no appeal is submitted, the dismissal will take effect.

Voluntary Withdrawal by the Student

Students wishing to withdraw from the program must inform the Graduate School Administration and the Student Registration Center. If withdrawal occurs after the semester begins, the student must ensure that course registrations for that semester are canceled.

Supervisor-Initiated Dismissal

Students who cease their Master’s research with their supervisor (or are dismissed by the supervisor) must secure a new supervisor within one month of leaving the lab. Failure to do so will result in termination of their studies.

Concurrent Studies in Another Faculty

Students wishing to pursue concurrent studies in another program or faculty must obtain approval from both faculties. Approval must be submitted during registration. At the end of each academic year, students’ averages will be reviewed. Students with an average below 80 at the end of the first year, based solely on first and second exam dates, will not be allowed to continue concurrent studies.

Enrollment in Advanced Courses

Students may not register for advanced courses without successfully completing prerequisite courses.
