Microbiologist
Researchers pursue basic and applied research in the cellular and molecular biology of infectious diseases, cancer, immunology, and host defense.

The hallmark of the department is in its focus of both understanding disease mechanisms and using this knowledge to develop novel therapies. The department encourages successful interdisciplinary collaborations between its immunologists and experts in infectious diseases, resulting in a high rate of excellent publications and continuous strong external funding. Our department is located on the 7th and 8th floors of the Medical School and is composed of 11 independent research groups. Four additional research groups affiliated with our department are located at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

Research in our department focuses on the study of:

  • pathogenic microorganisms-- bacteria, viruses and fungi
  • the immune system-- immunotherapy, phagocytic oxidative response, inflammation
  • cancer-- breast cancer metastasis, signaling mutations leading to cancer.
