Psychiatry
Students in the Department of Psychiatry will acquire the knowledge and professional skills necessary for the field. These skills include the ability to observe and describe various behavioral disorders and mental illnesses, both at the individual level and with regard to interpersonal relationships in the family and in society. Our students will then be able to make a general evaluation, a differential diagnosis, and select appropriate patient care within the framework of the family.
Student learning occurs in a clinical setting under the guidance of an experienced mentor. Teaching emphasis is placed on understanding the natural course of pyschiatric disorders and the gradual progression from normal to pathological. Practitioners give demonstrations on the techniques used in psychiatric interviews and on how to control emotions around agitated patients. Psychiatrists guide the learning and demonstrate proper relations between patients, staff, and practitioners.
