The Department of Ophthalmology offers ophthalmic medical education for medical students, residents, and board certified specialists.

Tel Aviv University and its affiliated ophthalmology departments encourage and support basic and clinical research in the field of ophthalmology. Prominent research institutes integral to the Sackler Faculty of Medicine are the Goldschleger Eye Research Institute and the Felsenstein Medical Research Center. Medical students, practicing physicians, and other advanced degrees perform ophthalmic basic science and applied clinical research.
