Optima XPN 80K

Ultracentrifuge can run at speeds as high as 80,000 rpm. Rotors spin in an evacuated and refrigerated chamber, to reduce friction and heating of rotor and samples.

Applications

  • Separation of proteins by ammonium sulfate precipitation and sucrose/glycerol gradients
  • Clarification of lysates and homogenates
  • Fractionation of lipoproteins by differential floatation and density gradients
  • Isolation of subcellular fractions (microsomes, mitochondria, nuclei, membranes, ribosomes) by pelleting
  • Isolation of subcellular fractions (chromatin, mitochondria, ribosomes, microsomes, membranes) by sucrose gradients
  • DNA size fractionation in gradients and plasmid purification in CsCl
  • Pelleting in CsCl and CsTFA density gradients of RNA
  • Isolation of viruses by pelleting and density gradients

 

Available rotors

Published procedures involving a centrifugation step usually cite the required speed in g-units (i.e. RCF or Relative Centrifugal Force). The centrifuge speed however, is set in rpm (Revolutions Per Minute).
