General:

Dr. Lustig serves as the director of the Central Virology Laboratory of the Ministry of Health (MOH) since 2023. He is a Senior Lecturer at the Epidemiology and Preventive
Medicine Department, School of Public Health, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University since 2021. Dr. Lustig conducted his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in biochemistry and biotechnology at the Faculty of Life Sciences in Bar-Ilan University. In 2007 Dr. Lustig received his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at Bar-Ilan University and moved to
Boston for a post-doctoral fellowship at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in the United States. After completing his post-doctoral training in transcriptional
regulation, he moved to Israel’s Central Virology Laboratory, where he served as the head of the National Center for Zoonotic Viruses until 2022. In 2022 Dr. Lustig spent a sabbatical at the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Douek, Chief of Human Immunology Section at the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Maryland, USA, to deepen his understanding of the immune response to viral infections. Dr. Lustig serves in several national and international committees, including the MOH outbreak response team, the MOH advisory committee to national vaccinations and is on the scientific advisory board of the European Center for Disease Control funded Emerging Viral Disease (EVD) Laboratories Network.
