In recent years we frequently witness the horrific destruction triggered globally by forces of nature or human-induced circumstances and events.
Experience and conclusions indicate the need in training, practice, and multidisciplinary lessons-learned of all concerning bodies who partner for preparedness and response in such events. Lessons-learned from various emergency events such as “Hurricane Katrina” (2005), 9/11 (2001), 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan (2011) and the rocket launches towards the Israeli front (2008, 2012, 2014), demonstrate the crucial need in management and multi-system coordination between all the authorities taking part in such events.
The ability to recover what has not been prepared or dealt with during the time of the incident - is extremely limited. The outcomes of dysfunctional operations during these events are casualties, non-prevention of preventable disabilities, damage of shelters, sources of energy, infrastructure and more. The cost to the state, the public, and the individual can be immense. From all these, the significance of the field of emergency preparedness is derived.
The Master of Disaster Management M.DM has been designed to provide students with a thorough understanding, leadership skills and practical knowledge to manage disaster of all types that involve human tragedy.
Our program invites students to address problems based on critical discourse and knowledge relevant to their context.
The Department faculty and guest lecturers are considered to be world experts in the field of emergency and disaster management. This program creates and encourages innovative, an international collaboration between academic experts and leaders in disaster response.
In recent years, there has been an increase in demand for qualified emergency and disaster management professionals in various settings, such as hospitals, academia, and humanitarian or international aid organizations. Our alumni hold critical positions around the world in emergency management departments, international security organizations, governments, NGOs, and more.
