Critical Care Department

The Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at TAU offers students practical and theoretical knowledge of this dynamic and rapidly evolving specialty. As technology improves and regulations change, the decisions of the anesthesiologist become even more delicate. They base it on the surgical procedure, the patient's physical condition, coexisting diseases, patient safety, and operational efficiency. Anesthesiologists play critical roles in surgical preparation, pain management.

The Department incorporates nearly 75 physicians from six hospital departments affiliated with the Faculty.  They are experts in numerous anesthesia subspecialties and will provide students with the essential knowledge of anesthesiology and intensive care. Topics covered include the basics of anesthesiology, principles of the treatment of pain, critical care and trauma care. Emphasis will also be given to treating special groups such as children, pregnant women, the elderly and victims of trauma and shock patients.

Student teaching takes place through a clerkship, in either the fifth year of the 6 year program or the third year of the 4 year program. Teaching takes place over a period of two weeks and includes departmental activities, lectures, seminars, and training in institutes, clinics and operating rooms. During the clerkship, students participate in a simulations center to address topics related to emergency medicine and resuscitation. These simulations provide the student with practical skills and knowledge that is essential for medical professionals.
