Psychedelics in Parkinson’s Disease: Treatment and Mechanisms

The major aim of this project is to uncover the potential role of psychedelics in treating neurodegeneration, focusing on PD. Within this aim we will investigate the cellular pathways activated by psychedelics that are directly related to PD conditions such as oxidative stress, mitochondria activity, and cellar degradation.
We further aim to decipher the role of 5-HT2A receptor in these activities. For this we propose to compare the activity of LSD that shows a broader range of cellular targets vs. DOI which is more selective toward the 5HT2A receptor.
