Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases

The Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases Research Cluster brings together a dedicated community of scientists, clinicians, and academics united by a shared focus on cardiometabolic medicine

Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases

The Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases Synergy Cluster brings together clinicians, physician-scientists, and basic researchers to accelerate the translation of discoveries into innovative diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

The group integrates expertise across cardiology, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, vascular medicine, neurovascular diseases, internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism, nephrology, pulmonology, critical care, medical imaging, pathology, molecular and cellular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, and regenerative medicine. By fostering close collaboration between clinical departments and research laboratories, we aim to address complex diseases that span multiple organ systems and require interdisciplinary solutions.

Our scientific focus encompasses the study of cardiovascular biology, vascular biology, cardiometabolic diseases, metabolic regulation, inflammation and immunity, tissue remodeling and fibrosis, ischemic injury, heart failure, atherosclerosis, thrombosis, pulmonary vascular disease, cerebrovascular disorders, chronic kidney disease, obesity, diabetes, lipid metabolism, mitochondrial function, aging, and mechanisms of regeneration and repair. We also promote research at the interface of cardiovascular health with cancer, immune disorders, neurovascular diseases, and systemic metabolic dysfunction.

This Synergy Cluster serves as a collaborative platform for developing multidisciplinary research programs, integrating human clinical samples with advanced experimental models, leveraging state-of-the-art omics technologies, imaging, computational biology, and artificial intelligence, and facilitating investigator-initiated clinical studies and early translational research. Through these efforts, we strive to bridge fundamental discoveries with clinical implementation, ultimately improving patient outcomes, and advancing precision medicine in cardiovascular and metabolic health.

Researchers and clinicians with interests in cardiovascular, endocrine and metabolic diseases are invited to take part in the cluster's activities. Together, we can shape the future of care, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals and families impacted by cardiometabolic diseases.
