Medical Students Association and Student Government

The Sackler Faculty of Medicine Medical Students Association has more than 1,500 members representing the Israeli Medical School Program, The New York State/American Program, the School of Dental Medicine, the Departments of Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy, and the School of Communication Disorders. The Association is supported by the Dean of Students Affairs of Tel Aviv University and is a member of the Israeli Federation of Medical Student Associations and of the International Federation of Medical Students (IFMSA).

The Association’s various committees:

1. provide social, cultural and recreational activities for its members
2. serve as liaison between the student body and the Faculty Curriculum Committee regarding teaching policy
3.  organize exchange programs for medical students from Israel and abroad
4. maintain ties with the International Federation of Medical Students, together with associations from the three medical schools in Jerusalem, Haifa and Be’er Sheba.

Association officers maintain close ties with the Dean of Students Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine and of Tel Aviv University. Two student representatives from the Israeli program and two from the New York State/American Program serve as full members of the Faculty Curriculum Committee. Students in the latter program are represented on the Faculty Council by representatives of the Israeli program.

Committee on Student Well-Being

This committee of students, along with representatives of the faculty, aims to maintain and improve the emotional health of the students. In addition, it strives to create better relations with faculty and office staff, to solve problems related to curriculum and scheduling, and improve school spirit.

Student Government

The New York State/American Program has a student council, comprised of four elected class officers from each class. The council is responsible for overseeing the affairs of the entire student body, as well as dealing with issues and concerns specific to his/her class. Class meetings are held on a monthly basis. A constitution provides a framework for the student government.
